5 Steps for a Successful Pipe Relining Operation
Pipe relining is part of the many methods that’s part of trenchless pipe rehabilitation procedures. As much as possible, pipe relining is used in restoring damaged pipes since its total repair is cost is lower than old pipe repair solutions while being conducted without any form of excavation. Step 1 : Checking the pipe’s condition
Plumbing services or pipe contractors don’t immediately go to the area and start doing the pipe relining process; they will first check the condition of the inner lining of the pipes. In the past, repairmen have to dig out the pipes since there is no other way to check out what’s going inside the sewer system. Things are very much different today, contractors can just place a drain camera inside the pipes and visually check for clogs, cracks, and other abnormalities.
Step 2 : Removing any clogs and problems inside the pipes
The common clogs that are found in the sewer pipes are roots, oil accumulation, soil, and other forms of debris. The pipe relining can’t proceed if these obstructions are present. Doing a pipe relining with clogs is a complete waste of time and effort since it will only result in failure. For roots problems, cutting machines designed for slicing roots in sewer line are often used. With other forms of debris and blockades, they can be cleared with the help of a water jetter. This water jetter can easily bursts high water pressure that can reach up to 25,000 psi. After the pipes have been cleared off, the drain camera is used again to double check if there are still obstructions. The dimensions of the pipeline are also calculated for the creation of the pipe resin liner.
Step 3 : Creating the liner
Epoxy resin is mixed together with the liner and a bit of a hardening agent. The liner is then repeatedly coiled to evenly spread the epoxy resin. There are many types of resins besides epoxy, but it’s more preferred due to its durability and longevity.
Step 4 : Inserting the epoxy resin liner
The epoxy resin liner is pumped into the sewer pipes with the use of an inversion drum or other inversion equipment. Once the resin liner is in place, the liner is pushed against the host pipe with either air or water inversion.
Step 5 : Curing the liner
Curing is just another term for quickening the hardening process of the epoxy resin. This can be done by heating the resin liner with hot steam or boiling water. Once the resin hardens, it will become a protective coating for the old pipes while also becoming the main pipeline. There is one final inspection done to confirm that the resin liner is indeed cured to perfection and there were no mistakes with the insertion of the liner. In case there are any issues with the installation, the pipe relining services has to fix the problem.
